The Erbium laser is absorbed by the skin more effectively than the CO2 laser. Because of this, there is much less thermal injury, or heat damage, to the skin. For the patient, this translates into less anesthesia requirements, more rapid healing, less redness, shorter duration of redness and less potential for hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation. Because of the versatility and precision of the Erbium:YAG laser, Dr. Jasin feels that it is more effective than fractionated lasers.
Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure
The Erbium:YAG laser provides us with more flexibility of treatment. A very light and freshening peel can be done for younger patients to keep their skin looking young and healthy. Those with more severe changes of aging or sun damage can be successfully treated as well. People with ethnic skin, who could not be reliably treated with previous methods of resurfacing, can be successfully and safely treated with the Erbium:YAG laser. Dr. Jasin also uses the Erbium:YAG laser to achieve excellent results in the treatment of acne scars.
